Khloe Kardashian has been condemned by PETA for having her cats declawed, after the reality TV star admitted she deeply regrets making the decision for her pets. The controversy began after Khloe spoke candidly about the experience during a recent episode of her podcast, where she reflected on the guilt and sadness she now feels over choosing the procedure for her beloved cats. The 41-year-old reality TV star recently opened up about the “really terrible” decision she made to have both her pets, Grey Kitty and Baby Kitty, undergo the procedure, which involves removing all or part of a cat’s third toe bones and the attached claws. The operation has been heavily criticised by animal welfare experts and veterinary organisations around the world because it can affect their natural behaviour for the rest of their lives.
Animal rights organisation PETA quickly responded to Khloe’s comments, using the opportunity to raise awareness about the dangers of declawing and encourage pet owners not to follow her example. The group said many people wrongly believe declawing is a simple cosmetic procedure when, in reality, it is a serious surgery that permanently changes the structure of a cat’s paws.

“My cats wear AirTags. Like, they’re not allowed to even go near a door. I’m so afraid if they get out because they have no way to defend themselves. They lost their protection tools. It makes me sad.” One user commented on the situation, “Declawing a cat is cruel.. They use their claws for so many things. Imagine someone taking pliers and removing every single one of your finger nails. This is so inhumane and I cannot believe someone who claims to be an animal lover would do this. I’m sure it was because they were scratching her expensive furniture too. That’s why you’re supposed to provide them with multiple outlets to scratch on like scratching posts and beds. Anyone who knows anything about cats knows how awful declawing is. Some vet clinics even refuse to do it because they consider it so harmful and cruel.

While the state as a whole did not ban the procedure until January 2026, it has been banned in Los Angeles, where Khloé lives, since 2009.
“Cats need scratching posts and regular nail trims, not surgeries done purely for human convenience. PETA urges everyone to avoid Khloe’s mistake and let cats keep the claws they were born with.”
Khloe expressed her regret at listening to bad advice and getting her two cats declawed because she is now afraid to let them roam freely outside because they can no longer protect themselves against perceived threats. She admitted that she did not properly understand the long-term consequences of the procedure at the time and now feels responsible for any discomfort or unhappiness her pets may experience.
The Kardashians star explained that she had never owned cats before and relied on advice from others who suggested declawing would make caring for them easier. Looking back, she said she wishes she had researched the procedure more thoroughly before agreeing to it.
Speaking openly and emotionally on her podcast, Khloe revealed that learning more about declawing after the surgery left her feeling devastated and ashamed. She also admitted she worries that the procedure may have affected her cats’ personalities and overall wellbeing.
Speaking on her podcast, she said: “I was really misadvised about getting my cats declawed. I’ve never owned cats before. I didn’t even know that was a thing. “I feel really, really terrible that I did go in this direction. I feel like that’s why my cats are miserable and it was at my doing.”

Her comments sparked debate online, with many animal lovers praising her honesty for speaking openly about her regrets, while others criticised her for making the decision in the first place. Some fans also noted that her willingness to publicly acknowledge her mistake could help educate others about the realities of declawing and discourage future pet owners from considering the procedure.
